What Happens During Meditation?

The first type of meditation often refers to what we call meditative practices. These include Reiki, Cosmoenergy, and any form of calming the mind or focusing the attention, as well as egregorial practices with a ritualistic component (like prayers or attunements).

These practices have a beginning and an end. You prepare, engage in the practice, complete it, and then return to your normal life.

The next type of meditation involves observing your breath and thoughts. This form of practice spans your entire waking time, dividing your awareness into two states: when you are conscious of your practice and when you fall into forgetfulness or distraction.

At this stage, you begin to experience a unique realization: you are awake, but you start to notice moments when you're metaphorically "asleep" or unaware. This is an intriguing observation and brings you closer to touching the inner Divine.

Of course, this kind of experience can occur in any meditation practice.

The next stage happens when your connection with the Divine becomes strong and unbroken.

At this point, the presence of the Divine and meditation become constant aspects of your life. Meditation can happen effortlessly through intention, and even without deliberate focus, the connection remains—latent but always ready to surface.

You might start with traditional meditative practices or by observing your breath and thoughts. But meditation itself may or may not occur.

So, if you ask, "What happens during meditation?" the most accurate and simple answer is: Nothing.

Meditation either happens, creating that connection with the Divine, or you are still on the path, getting closer to it step by step.
